Football season means tailgates, playoff predictions, and packed stadiums. It also means a spike in something most people never connect to game day...

Major sporting events draw enormous crowds from all over the country, and that surge in travelers and transient population creates conditions traffickers deliberately exploit. Traffickers are rarely the strangers we picture. They are community members, business owners, family members, or someone a child met online.

Any minor can be targeted, regardless of gender, race, or background, because traffickers are looking for vulnerability, not demographics. Youth experiencing homelessness or instability are at the highest risk, and that risk climbs whenever a major event brings more potential exploiters into one place.

A few signs tend to show up: disorientation, fear, an inability to speak freely, or someone who seems out of place without explanation.

I’m honored to be recognized in the 2027 edition of The Best Lawyers in America® for Plaintiffs Personal Injury Litigation.

The work behind this recognition is deeply personal to me. Representing people and families during some of the most difficult moments of their lives carries a tremendous responsibility, and I never take their trust for granted.

Lies women lawyers are told about softness, motherhood, and authority...

The things we have been told are weaknesses are actually our greatest strengths. Empathy is not a liability. It is what connects you to a witness and earns the trust of a jury. Intuition is not a distraction. It is what tells you to pivot mid-trial when the moment calls for it.

Softness is not the opposite of authority. It is exactly what makes you unforgettable in that courtroom. And motherhood does not compete with your career. You get to define both, on your own terms.

I spent years adjusting the volume on myself before I ever stepped into a courtroom.
The tone of voice, the wardrobe, always neutral, never bright. None of it had anything to do with how I tried a case, but I did it anyway.

Somewhere along the way, I absorbed the idea that the word professional came with a very specific look attached to it.

A lot of my former students tell me the same thing now. Their hair is not professional. Their voice is not professional. The way they show up is not professional. And what strikes me every time is how rarely that feedback has anything to do with the actual work.

Here is what I have come to believe... Competence is professionalism. Trust is professionalism. Showing up as someone your client believes in, that is professionalism.

I did not become better at this job when I got smaller. I became better at it when I stopped editing myself down to fit someone else’s idea of polished, and started showing up exactly as I am.

After a serious truck wreck, the company moves fast. Lawyers, investigators, and risk management teams show up before the wreckage even clears, and their job starts with one question... who else can we blame?

If the injured person is not an easy target, the driver becomes one. The driver’s name goes on the incident report, but the company’s decisions are what put the truck on the road. The real case rarely lives in the moment of the crash... It lives in the policies, the schedules, the dispatch records, and the maintenance logs written months before.

This is why we never stop at the driver. We go straight to the policies, the schedules, the dispatch records, the maintenance logs.
