It has come to my attention that someone is pretending to be an attorney from my office and trying to collect personal information from people, saying that he has paperwork to serve. He claims to be “Mr. Wells”, although I am sure that he might use other names. He gave a nice lady my office name, my old office address, and my office phone number, as well as an 855 phone number.
Thankfully this nice lady called my office number and asked what was going on and we instructed her to contact her local police department and not to speak to him again. This lady did the right thing and confirmed details before giving her personal information. I would feel absolutely horrible if someone used my name and office information to scam someone.
Our office will NEVER call you and ask for personal information. If you are already a client we have all the information we need. If you are a potential future client we will get whatever information we need when you hire me. It will NOT include bank account numbers.
I am currently the only attorney in my office. If anyone calls and says he or she is an attorney from my office, he or she is lying. Hang up and call your local law enforcement agency. Do not disclose your Social Security number, banking information, date of birth, mother’s maiden name, or any other information that could potentially be used to steal your identity. Be safe out there. Scammers are becoming excellent at seeming credible and it will probably get worse with the advent of AI. If anyone ever calls you and asks for any personal information hang up and call the business directly. Look up the business’ number. Do not use the number the scammer gave you.
