Today, Ghanooni Law Firm settled a $62K student loan lawsuit for less than 50% of the balance. Considering that student loans are non-dischargeable in bankruptcy, this was an amazing result and our client was thrilled. Asset Protection 101: If you have real property or other significant assets in your name, please do not skimp on your car insurance or your homeowners insurance. Please review your insurance declarations and make sure you have enough coverage (including umbrella and uninsured motorist) so that if you get into a catastrophic accident, you are not relying on the other side to pay your medical bills or relying on the other side to pay their own medical bills for that matter. Umbrella insurance is very inexpensive. If you don't believe me, get a quote so you can see for yourself. If you are an employer in California, you should also look into employment practices liability insurance. These are the easiest way to protect your assets. If you have an insurance agent, which is the best way to go, they should advise you on which policies are best for you. This is such an easy preventative measure. Happy Monday.
