Looking back 25 years to this very day, I can hardly believe how far this journey has taken me. September 22, 2000 feels like both a lifetime ago and yesterday all at once. I remember walking into that small rented office with determination, two loyal clients who had followed me, and a mixture of excitement and terror.

Twenty-five years practicing tax and estate law has taught me that behind every complex regulation are real people facing life’s most significant transitions. Those first clients didn’t just follow me for technical expertise; they trusted me to guide them through tax codes and estate planning strategies that would protect what they had worked their entire lives to build.

The early years were humbling. I learned that mastering tax law was just the beginning – the real skill was translating complex regulations into practical strategies. Estate planning isn’t just about minimizing taxes; it’s about helping families navigate emotionally charged decisions while preserving their values. Tax representation taught me that sometimes you need someone willing to fight when the stakes are highest.

The practice naturally evolved, ultimately leading us to relaunch our litigation practice, focusing on high-value federal litigation. Whether challenging an IRS determination or defending against enforcement actions, the foundation remains the same – understanding that behind every case is a client whose life hangs in the balance.

I’ve been blessed with colleagues who became mentors and judges who demanded excellence. To everyone who challenged me to be better – thank you.

To my clients over these twenty-five years, you have been my greatest teachers. You’ve trusted me with your most important financial decisions, welcomed me into your families during estate planning, relied on me when the IRS came calling, and placed your faith in me when litigation put everything on the line.

To my colleagues and staff, your expertise has made everything possible. Tax work demands precision, estate planning requires detail, and litigation accepts nothing less than excellence.

But above all, I need to acknowledge the person who has made this entire journey possible. Heather, my wife, my partner, my anchor through it all – there are no words adequate to express what your support has meant. You’ve been there through long nights preparing for court, the stress of controversies, and the uncertainty of building something from nothing.

When I was questioning whether I could make it, you believed. When cases kept me up, you listened. When we decided to expand into litigation, you supported that leap. Your strength and support haven’t just sustained me – they’ve made me better.

Twenty-five years ago, I had hope and determination. Today, I have perspective and deep appreciation for how many people it takes to build a life’s work. To everyone who has been part of this journey – clients, colleagues, friends, family, and especially Heather – thank you.
