A 6-year-old boy died after being struck by a falling log during a trip to the beach in Washington state.

Killian Gonzales was crushed by a log at Little Squalicum Beach in on July 8, 2026 around 6 p.m. local time, according to a news release from the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office.

“The child was not breathing after being struck by a log and appeared to have suffered a head injury,” officials said.

CPR was administered to Gonzales on the scene. He was then airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, dying four days later on Sunday, July 12.

“Each of us at the Sheriff’s Office joins our community in mourning the loss of this precious child,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement.

“Though his time with us was too brief, we are grateful for the light he shone. We lift his family and loved ones in care and prayer through this painful time.”

NBC affiliate KING 5 reported that Gonzales was at the beach with his babysitter and sister. His mom Sonja McCartney told the outlet that he was playing around a driftwood fort when the log fell.

She said her son tried to get away, but was struck in the back of the head by the piece of wood before being pinned on the left side of his body.

“It’s been a very tough day and we’re struggling,” McCartney told the station, before going on to thank all of the first responders and medical professionals who “did everything they possibly could to help him.’

A woman charged in a fatal UTV crash that left two people dead had a blood alcohol content that was three times the legal limit, according to court documents.

Megan Zimmerman is charged in Green Lake County with two counts of homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle and first degree recklessly endangering safety.

The crash happened April 18 on Princeton Road, Town of Brooklyn, during a Veterans Memorial UTV ride.

According to the criminal complaint, security video from a local hardware store shows people getting out of the UTV while stumbling and unsteady. The complaint also says later video shows Zimmerman carrying two drinks, still stumbling, and getting into the driver’s seat.

The complaint cites a witness who estimated the UTV was going into a sharp curve, “way too fast.” The witness said brakes squealed, the UTV rolled and hit a tree.

The complaint said cell phone data shows Zimmerman’s phone traveling up to 62 miles per hour on Old Green Lake Road and about 46 mph entering the curve.

The UTV roadway speed limit is 35 mph.

When responding to the crash, the criminal complaint said officers noted a strong smell of intoxicants coming from Zimmerman, as well as red and watery eyes, slurred speech, and sluggish and dazed demeanor.

Empty cans and two partially empty whiskey bottles plus mixers were found in and around the UTV.

The complaint states Zimmerman consented to a blood draw and said, “yes, you can. I know I was drinking.”

The complaint says the lab results showed a BAC of .240 g/100 mL. The legal limit in Wisconsin is 0.08.

The victims were Zimmerman’s friends, according to the complaint. One died at the scene, the other died several days later.

Zimmerman first appeared in court on June 8. The court set a cash bond on $5,000 and ordered Zimmerman to maintain absolute sobriety, including staying away from bars. On Tuesday, her bond was modified to allow contact with the victims.

Nicole L. Deaver, 40, and Timothy L. Kamphuis, 46 — both from Fairwater — were killed in the crash.

A 44-year-old woman died Friday at the Muscogee County Jail.

Kimberly Golden was found unresponsive in her cell, according to the Muscogee County Sheriff’s Office.

Columbus Fire and EMS and the Coroner’s Office responded to the scene.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation was called to investigate the incident as part of standard protocol.

MCSO Special Operations investigators will work a parallel investigation alongside the GBI.

The sheriff’s office said any questions regarding the incident will come from the GBI.

A jury has awarded $104 million in a wrongful death case against a local trucking business.

Lawyers for the Tawney, Acosta and Chaparro (TAC) P.C. Truck Crash & Injury Attorneys law firm say a driver of a commercial truck fell asleep at the wheel, crashed and killed El Pasoan Orlando Robles. The jury’s verdict came after a trial against Mesilla Valley Transportation and its driver Juan Garcia that began on June 30th, according to an announcement from the law firm.

The crash happened around 4 a.m. on Oct. 28, 2020, on Interstate 40 in Sequoyah County, Oklahoma. Sequoyah County is over 150 miles east of Oklahoma City.

According to the law firm, Garcia, an MVT Services LLC’s company trainer, fell asleep while driving, which caused the vehicle to drift off the roadway and slam into a box truck. The box truck had its emergency lights flashing on the shoulder.

The impact of the crash destroyed the sleeper compartment of the box truck, where Robles was asleep and killed him, according to the law firm.

TAC represented Robles’ son, and other family members, including Robles’ wife, mother and daughters, were represented separately.

Of the $104 million awarded in the trial, $20 million was for compensatory damages and $7.5 million was for punitive damages to Robles’ son, who was seven years old and the time of his father’s death.

New videos show wrong-way Jeep moments before crash that killed Massachusetts State Police trooper

Authorities said Trooper Kevin Trainor was killed around 2:04 a.m. Wednesday, after his cruiser was struck by a wrong‑way driver on Route 1 in Lynnfield, Massachusetts.

According to state police, Trainor had just finished a work detail and was on his way home when a 911 call came in reporting a wrong‑way driver traveling on the highway. As troopers responded, Trainor’s Chevy Tahoe was struck head‑on by a Jeep Wrangler traveling in the wrong direction.

A garbage truck driver shared a dashcam video with Boston 25 News News showing the wrong-way Jeep speeding past him in the Broadway tunnel at 2:02 a.m.

In the video, the driver is seen blowing his airhorn and reaching for his phone to call 911.

1 dead in Marion County crash involving school bus, Florida Highway Patrol says

A 76-year-old man from Silver Springs has died following a crash with a school bus on Wednesday.

It happened on State Road 40 near SE 177th Avenue near Silver Springs.

Lorie Provancher said she was driving behind the school bus on Wednesday when the bus attempted to make a left turn.

"If you were there, you'd be saying the same thing. I have no idea what was going through the bus driver's mind. At all. To make that turn," Provancher said.

The Marion County Public Schools confirmed the bus was carrying a driver, an aide, and four children between the ages of 5 and 10 from Maplewood Elementary. All passengers on the bus were unharmed.

Provancher described the aftermath of the crash, saying the truck driver wasn't able to get out.

"The gentleman was screaming for someone to get him out of his truck. All we could do was I was on the phone with 911, frantically, and my daughter and the other witness were trying to let him know that help was coming. There was nothing else we could do at that point; you couldn't get to him from either side of the car," she said.

The man was taken to the hospital, but he later died.

The Florida Highway Patrol said they believe the bus driver failed to yield the right of way while attempting the left turn.

The Marion County School District stated it will wait for the FHP to issue its official accident report before determining any disciplinary actions.

The School District said the bus is equipped with cameras, but they wouldn't release those videos, citing student privacy.

A string of school bus-related incidents in Florida last month has raised questions about student safety.
