Jefferson County Adoption Day - 25th Anniversary
Welcome to Whoville — Where Families Bloom & Hearts Boom

This year marked the **25th anniversary** of Jefferson County Adoption Day — a milestone celebrating two and a half decades of creating forever families. Nineteen children and eleven wonderful households joined that legacy this year in a joyful Whoville-themed celebration.

This event is made possible by a committed village:
💛 Child Protective Services caseworkers
💛 The team at Texas Family Care Network
💛 Prosecutors and the courts
💛 And the many partners and volunteers working quietly behind the scenes to bring the day to life

At the center of the tradition, the Jefferson County Bar Association organizes, hosts, and sponsors the event with volunteer lawyers providing all legal services at no cost. The JCBA Foundation covers new birth certificates and provides the refreshments and celebration elements that make the day special.

Jefferson County District Clerk Jamie Smith generously waives all filing fees, ensuring families begin their new chapter with no financial burden.

Together, this community creates a meaningful and memorable day that reflects the true spirit of the season.

🎄🍭 A Candyland Christmas to Remember: Celebrating 24 Years of National Adoption Day in Jefferson County, TX! 🍭🎄

Yesterday, the Jefferson County Bar Association hosted its 24th annual National Adoption Day celebration—Home for the Holidays: A Candyland Christmas. In this magical event, 17 beautiful children found their forever homes with 13 incredible families, making their holiday season truly unforgettable.

The JCBA, along with our dedicated partners, worked tirelessly to transform the courthouse into a breathtaking Candyland, where families walked into an environment filled with love, joy, and sweet surprises. From the colorful decorations to the heartwarming moments, this event was a true testament to what community and collaboration can achieve.

✨ Our role?
The Jefferson County Bar Association provided:
✅ Free legal services through our amazing volunteer lawyers.
✅ Free birth certificates to make it official.
✅ A festive family reception to celebrate this life-changing day.
✅ Coordination of the entire event, alongside our outstanding partners, including:
• Jefferson County Family Courts
• Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office
• Jefferson County District Clerk
• Texas Family Care Network
• Department of Family and Protective Services
• CASA
• And so many more!

💖 None of this could have been possible without our incredible pro bono lawyers who donated their time, expertise, and resources to make this day as sweet as it was meaningful. Once again, the JCBA proved why we’re the best little bar in Texas—the glue that holds the magic together and makes sweet dreams come true for these families.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who played a part in this event (and there are dozens) —your hard work and generosity made this a perfect combination of holiday spirit and community love. Here’s to the power of collaboration and putting hearts into action!

Had an amazing day at the Youth Expo, where judges, lawyers, paralegals, and court reporters shared invaluable insights with today’s high schoolers on how to embark on a rewarding journey in the legal profession. Inspiring the next generation of legal minds!

Did you hear that? The bells . . . they were ringing so loud, and it was glorious music to our ears! But, more important, did you feel that? That was our hearts swelling with love and affection as we all hopped on the Jefferson County Adoption Express and traveled to Santa’s Workshop, where 8 precious children found FOREVER HOMES!

At the JCBA, we live for National Adoption Day –the BEST DAY OF THE YEAR! It renews our spirit just in time for the holiday season! The pictures say it all . . . be sure to look at the list of organizations & individuals who make this event happen . . . they give generously of their time, talent, resources, and HEART to make this event happen. Thank you to all the elected officials who came and helped us celebrate this EPIC day.

And, of course, THANK YOU to our JCBA Pro Bono lawyers and the JCBA Foundation, who do all the legal work for FREE and plan, execute, and underwrite this event so families incur NO EXPENSE for these adoptions!

But the real heroes are the adoptive families who open their hearts and their homes to these precious children!

The bell still rings for those who BELIEVE! Looking forward to next year . . . wonder what the theme will be????

The Best Way to Spread Christmas Cheer? Well, of course, by BECOMING A FAMILY this year! The JCBA celebrated the best day of the year yesterday. Jefferson County Adoption Day was back LIVE and IN PERSON! This was the 22nd year to host the event and after two years of virtual events, the live event did not disappoint! It brought along tons of hugs, heart swells, laughs, giggles, and smiles! Smiling – we LOVE smiling! It’s our FAVORITE!

Buddy the Elf (Judge Randy Shelton) conducted the hearings uniting 10 families who welcomed 15 children to their forever homes! Of course, he couldn’t do it alone and had lots of help! Several elves, a toy soldier, a reindeer, and a snowman were helping make the day magical for these families. Ten volunteer lawyers provided the legal work for FREE. The JCBA Foundation covered the cost of new birth certificates and the new family reception. The Jefferson County District Clerk Jamie Smith waived the filing fees. Oh, and Santa (Judge Larry Thorne) arrived just in time to get his broken sleigh repaired by the magic of the morning! SANTA . . . We know him!

On behalf of the 504 members of the JCBA, we thank Judge Thorne for being our SHINING STAR! During his tenure on the bench, he has granted the adoption of 191 precious children by 129 loving families spanning 22 Jefferson County Adoption Days! And in typical Thorne fashion, he gave each one of them their day of sunshine and made it OVER THE TOP fun. We wish him a glorious retirement!

Always a great start to the Christmas season! THANK YOU to everyone who made this day possible – you know who you are!
