We hope you and your families are safe after Hurricane Beryl passed through our area this week. It is now time to do what Southeast Texas does best- join together to help anyone in need with the recovery process. This can be an overwhelming task, so here are a few easy tips:
📌Document everything! Take lots of videos and pictures, you can’t take too many.
📌 Buy a notepad to keep track of all of your conversations regarding the damages- write down who you are speaking with, the date of the conversation, and a summary of the conversation.
📌 Buy a file folder or plastic container to keep your receipts for items purchased, costs incurred, and any correspondence to and from your insurance company.
📌 File your insurance claim: When you notify your insurance company (or insurance agent) that your property is damaged, you must file your claim in writing. Be sure to list as many of the damages that you can.
📌 Mitigate your damages to the best of your ability. This means do what you reasonably can to lessen the damage (for example, if you can do so safely, tarp a damaged roof, cover broken windows). Take pictures before and after.
📌 Be careful and mindful before you sign a contract with contractors or public adjusters. This is one of the most important decisions you will make during this process.
