Yesterday, we honored the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. It is a national holiday in America. However, our current President chose to say absolutely nothing about Dr. King or his legacy. Instead, President Trump wrote a letter to the Premier of Denmark threatening a hostile takeover of Greenland and told him "Considering your Country decided not to give me the Nobel Peace Prize ... , I no longer feel an obligation to think purely of Peace, although it will always be predominant, but can now think about what is good and proper' for the US."

America has a person in the White House in control of the U.S. Military who has no respect for our allies, or for peace. He only respects power and believes that the world should bow down to his whim. He does not reflect what I believe to be the essence of America-a shining light on the hill that stands for democracy, justice, and peace through alliances.

Despite our current leadership, let us as Americans continue striving for justice, equality, and the dream of a better tomorrow.
