Ida dealt a crushing blow to Louisiana and the Northeast. The recovery process will be long and difficult. If anyone needs any assistance with flood or wind insurance issues, please feel free to reach out to me.

Hurricane season is almost upon us. It is predicted to be an above average season. We have already seen flooding rains in Lake Charles. I will be following the season closely and updating this page regularly. This is the time to begin Hurricane preparation.

Hurricane Dorian update. The current projected Dorian path has a Cat 4 into Palm Beach, over Lake Okeechobee and then turning north through the remainder of Florida and possibly through GA and the Carolinas. Steering currents are very weak, which will likely result in a very slow moving Hurricane that sits over Florida in excess of a day. If this occurs, it will be a Harvey type of situation with recurring tidal cycles and training of rain, in conjunction with severe surge. This is a potentially catastrophic outcome for Florida. There is also the possibility that the storm comes in further south, or even further north. Again, this situation depends on a blocking ridge building to the north and the speed in which an upper level low backs away to the west. Projected impact is late Monday to early Tuesday.

Hurricane Dorian is predicted to be a Cat 4 at landfall in central to south central Florida. There are various solutions, one where Dorian enters the Gulf and continues as far West as New Orleans, and other solutions where Dorian rides the East Coast, re-emerges into the Atlantic and strikes the mid-Atlantic states. It is all very fluid right now and is subject to change. Dorian's potential impact in Florida will coincide with the King Tide and already saturated soil, making catastrophic flooding a genuine concern. As always, if you are in the path of a storm such as this, please leave. If you have flood insurance, document the pre-flood condition of your home with as many pictures and videos as you can. Take all important documents with you, especially anything that relates to your home. I will be updating this page regularly as Dorian approaches the US. Projected impact is Sunday.

A good article detailing what is still transpiring in Louisiana with NFIP policyholders who have been underpaid. I provided a good deal of background to the author for this article and I hope he does a followup and includes some more of my clients.

Marjorie and Charles “Chuck” Gill had $165,200 of flood insurance coverage on their three-bedroom home near Bayou Manchac.

I have it on good authority that FEMA will issue a bulletin shortly extending the Proof of Loss deadline for the August 2016 Louisiana floods. I believe it will be an additional 120 days, which is excellent news for those who are still pursuing their claim.

This speaks volumes. In 2005 we had levee breaches in multiple locations. In 2017 we had 8-10 inches of rain fall from a summer thunderstorm. Same result. What will happen to New Orleans if a slow moving tropical system dumps 30 inches of rain on the city like what happened last year from Robert to Lafayette?

It appears there was significant flooding to homes and businesses in New Orleans yesterday. If you have experienced flooding and have questions regarding a flood insurance claim, please feel free to contact me. I will be glad to answer any questions you may have.

The deadline to submit a Proof of Loss in support of your claim for the Great Flood of August 2016 is September 1st. Failure to submit a signed Proof of Loss, with supporting documentation, for the full amount claimed will result in your claim being BARRED. There is no more important document under the NFIP than a Proof of Loss and time is running out!
