For those with damage from Hurricane Ida ...
HOME DAMAGE
If your home has sustained damage from Hurricane Ida, you and your family can take steps to ensure safety precautions are met and repairs can be made as efficiently as possible.
▪ If property damage occurs, submit an insurance claim as soon as you can.
▪ Take photos of any damage before clean-up and repair efforts begin—you’ll need them for insurance claims purposes.
▪ Inform your claims specialist of any mitigation actions you take.
▪ Prevent additional damage by completing temporary repairs. For instance, if your basement has flooded or water has intruded into other parts of your house, pump and dry everything as soon as possible.
▪ Keep good receipts of all expenses including traveling out of town by car or plane.
Remember:
▪ A standard home insurance policy does not cover all aspects of hurricane damage.
▪ Flood insurance covers hurricane-related storm surges and flood damage.
▪ You likely have a separate, and higher, hurricane insurance deductible.
▪ Repairman and general contractors will come into the state from all parts of the country. Be certain they are insured and licensed by the state.
▪ Get references.
▪ Be patient, make sure the contractor is competent.
