Earlier today, Attorney Marina Biragova, the Executive Director of the SULC’s Tech and Entrepreneurship Clinic, met with Derrick Brent, the Deputy Under Secretary of Commerce for Intellectual Property and Deputy Director of the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and his team to discuss potential partnerships in the technology transfer space. The meeting was an important step towards creating synergies between Southern University and the USPTO. As technology continues to play an increasingly important role in our region’s economy, partnerships like this will be essential for promoting innovation and economic growth.

Jalyn Wells is a third-year law student at Southern University Law Center. The Fayetteville, North Carolina native and Fayetteville State University alumna has goals of becoming an intellectual property and data privacy attorney. Jalyn has written and published two scholarly articles regarding Critical Race Theory and reproductive rights in the South. Jalyn is a Senior Editor for Southern University Law Center’s (SULC) Journal of Race, Gender, and Poverty. Most recently she was named the Inaugural Managing Editor for the Journal of Intellectual Property, Technology, and Law. Aside from her academic obligations, she is the 2022-2023 President of the Intellectual Property Law Association and was the Research Assistant for Professor Angela Allen Bell, who is a committed public servant who frequently lends her time to causes involving social and/or restorative justice, criminal justice reform and prisoner reentry. Jalyn is also the first recipient of the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP) Westin Scholar Award on behalf of Southern University Law Center.
