Last Thursday one of Attorney aspirations finally came to fruition. He had asked ACC (American Conservation Coalition) to let me put on a nuclear panel in Bastrop, Texas for two years. In January they gave me the green light. What followed was 4 months of intense planning with Lisa Clontz, Ben Shrader, and Zack Abnet! With that planning, we have a 100 people show up to hear about nuclear energy and reindustrialisation in Bastrop county and Texas. We had amazing speakers and I was blessed with being the moderator. The professional pictures will be posted next week.

What exactly is judicial bias — and why should every litigant care?

Judicial bias (or maybe reverse bias) occurs when a judge allows personal beliefs, past experiences, financial interests, or relationships to influence their rulings instead of deciding the case solely on the law and the evidence. It can be actual bias (the judge is consciously prejudiced) or the appearance of bias (a reasonable person would question the judge’s impartiality).

Either way, it violates the fundamental constitutional guarantee of a fair and impartial tribunal.

For you as a litigant, the consequences are very real:
• You can lose your case — not because the facts or law were against you, but because the decision-maker wasn’t neutral.
• Critical evidence may be disregarded or rulings may inexplicably favor the other side.
• Appeals become necessary, costing you more time and money while delaying justice.

The good news? You have rights. If you believe your judge is biased, your attorney can file a motion for recusal. If that motion is denied, the bias can become strong grounds for appeal.

At Ringel & Brymer, we fight to protect your right to a fair day in court — including holding judges accountable when bias threatens your outcome.
Have you ever felt a judge was unfair in your case? Drop a comment (we read every one) or DM us for a confidential consultation.

What is an “Order to Show Cause” in Texas?

If you’ve been served with one, the court is requiring you to appear and explain why you shouldn’t face consequences — often for allegedly violating a prior court order (child support, custody, property division, etc.).

Missing your hearing or going unprepared can lead to serious results like fines, jail time, or other enforcement actions.

In this video, we break down what it means, why it’s issued, and what steps you should take.

At Ringel & Brymer, PLLC in Bastrop, we help clients respond effectively to Orders to Show Cause and other enforcement matters across Central Texas.

📌 Important Reminder from Ringel & Brymer PLLC

At our firm, our paralegals are an essential part of every successful case — they’re organized, detail-oriented, and incredibly skilled at supporting our attorneys with research, document preparation, case management, and trial prep.
But here’s the key distinction every client should understand:
Paralegals cannot give legal advice.

Only licensed attorneys are authorized to provide legal opinions, interpret how the law applies to your specific situation, recommend strategies, or tell you what your rights are. This isn’t a firm rule we made up — it’s the law in every state. Allowing a paralegal (or any non-attorney) to give legal advice would be considered the unauthorized practice of law, which puts both the client and the firm at risk.

Our paralegals work under the direct supervision of our attorneys at all times. They help build strong cases, but the final legal guidance always comes from a licensed lawyer. This structure protects you and ensures the advice you receive is accurate, ethical, and fully accountable.

So if you’re ever wondering “Can my paralegal answer this for me?” — the answer is no, and that’s actually a good thing. It means your case is getting the professional legal oversight it deserves.

Questions about your case? Our attorneys are here and ready to help.

Unlocking the Mystery: What is a Special Appearance in Texas Courts?

In Texas civil cases, a special appearance lets a defendant challenge the court’s personal jurisdiction without accidentally agreeing to it. Filed under Rule 120a, it’s an early way to argue “this isn’t the right court” before fighting the actual claims.

If granted, the case can be dismissed or transferred. The defendant can still defend on the merits if denied.

At Ringel & Brymer PLLC, we stay up to date on Texas procedural tools like special appearances. Follow for more insights into civil litigation!
