Recognition is meaningful. But the trust behind it means even more.

Congratulations to Brian Brown, Leah Barron, Christopher Casciano, and Emily Hammann on being recognized by Best Lawyers® for their work in medical malpractice and personal injury litigation.

Because behind every case is a person who needed someone to stand up, speak up, and fight for them. That’s the honor we’re proudest of.

How long is too long to wait for help?

If your mom presses her call button because she needs to get to the bathroom, needs medication, or needs assistance getting out of bed, “we’re short-staffed” shouldn’t automatically be the end of the conversation.

A delayed response can become a fall. A missed need can become an injury. And repeated delays may be a sign of a larger staffing problem.

If something happens, families deserve to know: Was this truly unavoidable, or was there simply no one there to help?

The first 48 hours after something goes wrong in a nursing home can be some of the most important time accounted for.

And not just because of what happened to the resident.
It’s because of what starts happening inside the facility afterward.

Staff may be asked to document what happened.

Supervisors may start reviewing who was working, what care was supposed to be provided, and what happened leading up to the incident.

And here's the part most families don't realize:

Those records aren't necessarily telling the exact same story.

The nursing chart might say one thing.
An employee's account might add another detail.
The facility's incident documentation might frame it differently.

And weeks or months later, those small differences can become a very big deal when someone is trying to reconstruct what actually happened.

That's why in nursing home cases, we don't just ask, “What did the facility say happened?”

We want to know what was being documented behind the scenes while everything was still fresh.

Behind a number like this is a person, and a family who trusted a facility to keep someone they loved safe.

In cases like this, the neglect is the kind that never should have happened in a place meant to provide care.

A result doesn't undo the loss.

But it does force answers, and it makes clear that this kind of care carries consequences.

Every case is different, and outcomes are never guaranteed.

But what doesn't change is this ⬇️

Families deserve the truth about what happened to someone they love.

Not every bad outcome is malpractice, and hearing that doesn't make the pain any easier to carry.

Medicine carries very real risks. Even with excellent care, complications happen and treatments fail.

Sometimes with heartbreaking results, and through no one's fault.
But malpractice is a different question.

It comes down to a simple standard:

Did the provider do what a reasonably careful provider would have done in the same situation?

When the answer is no, and that failure caused harm, a bad outcome can become something more.

That line is hard to see from the inside while you are grieving. Finding clarity often takes a careful review of medical records, timelines, and standards of care.

If you’re left with unanswered questions, you don’t have to sort through it alone.

If something about your care still doesn't sit right, reach out to Brown & Barron for next steps.

Nursing home neglect rarely announces itself with a loud alarm.

Instead, it hides in small, quiet changes that families are usually told not to stress over.

A sudden drop in weight.
An unexpected fall.
A sore that is supposedly "healing."

By themselves, each sign might seem minor.

But when these details start stacking up, that pattern is a major red flag for elder abuse or facility negligence.

If you suspect nursing home abuse or neglect, Brown & Barron are here to help you hold them accountable.

Making every client feel like family and keeping them completely informed is the standard we strive for every single day.
