Today, we received a grant on our Petition for Writ of Habeas Corpus in the United States District Court for the District of Maryland AND successfully defeated the Department of Homeland Security’s Motion to Pretermit pursuant to the ACA with Uganda.

We keep showing up, and we keep advocating for our clients. There is more work to be done.

TPS: SYRIA UPDATE
Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Syria was set to end on November 21, 2025.

On November 19, 2025, a federal judge blocked the termination. TPS for Syria is still valid, and EADs based on TPS Syria can continue for now. There is no written guidance as to how long this will continue, or whether re-registration will be available.

USCIS has made it clear that they intend to immediately appeal.

EADS + SSN

On Form I-765, you can check whether you want the Social Security Adminstration to issue you a Social Security Card. In the past, checking this box would automatically trigger the issuance of a Social Security Number and card, which applicants would expect to receive approximately 14 days after receiving their Employment Authorization Card.

As of March 2025, the SSA has quietly PAUSED the automatic issuance of social security numbers.

Even if you checked YES on the form, YOU ARE NOW REQUIRED TO APPLY IN PERSON at your local Social Security office.

Local Social Security offices can still issue new social security cards during the current government shutdown.

For all EAD renewals filed on or after October 30, 2025, there will no no longer be an automatic extension.

IF YOU NEED TO RENEW YOUR EAD, PLEASE CONTACT US IMMEDIATELY. YOUR REQUEST MUST BE RECEIVED TODAY.

ALL RENEWAL REQUESTS SHOULD BE FILED 180 DAYS BEFORE EAD EXPIRATION TO AVOID ANY GAPS IN EMPLOYMENT AUTHORIZATION.

This does not affect EADs that were automatically extended before October 30, 2025.

If you have been waiting to file your N-400, Application for Naturalization, now is the time! For all applications filed on or after October 20, 2025, the new 2025 Naturalized Civics Test will be administered.
This test consists of: 20 questions from the list of 128 civil test questions.

You will fail the test if you answer 9 of the 20 questions incorrectly. You must answer 12 correctly.

This test proves much more detailed and difficult than the current, 2008 version. Th current test consists of: 10 questions from the list of 100. You must answer 6 correctly.
