Join us next Friday, October 16th, for a new Professional Skills Training!

Becca Odelius, Volunteer Manager for PBRC, will moderate a Professional Skills Series panel of experienced attorneys who will share how they manage ethics and professional responsibility in their pro bono practice. Panelists include:

Craig Brodsky, Partner at Goodell, DeVries, Leech & Dann, LLP
Elizabeth Keyes, Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, University of Baltimore School of Law (Official)
Madonna Lebling, PBRC
A Rand, Shore Legal Access

Each meeting includes three components: a skills training; practical exercises; and a mentoring roundtable, where attendees can bring up litigation and other lawyering questions they’re currently facing—whether related to the presentation topic or not—and receive input from the group.

The skills training portion of each event will be made available as an on-demand webcast recording.

Last week, PBRC kicked off the 2026-2027 Professional Skills Academy Fellowship!

PBRC's Professional Skills Academy is a one-year, cohort-based program of training, mentoring, and service that will enhance the Fellows’ lawyering skills; develop within the Fellows the habit of thoughtfully choosing and carrying out pro bono service; and introduce the Fellows to mentors and colleagues who can help them grow.

We’re beyond excited to welcome 16 Academy Fellows to this year's class and look forward to seeing how they grow their legal skills in the year to come.

The Pro Bono Resource Center of Maryland’s Tenant Justice Program (TJP) is teaming up with the Pratt Library to offer free sessions about renter and tenant rights!

PBRC provides free legal help to tenants in Baltimore City and Baltimore County who are at risk of eviction. Our goal is to help you stay in your home by connecting you to resources and giving advice on how to manage your rent and other bills. We also work to make sure all tenants are treated fairly across the state.

At these sessions, TJP representatives will talk about important topics like:

✅ Laws that affect tenants
✅ Your rights as a tenant
✅ How to work with your landlord
✅ How to get extra help and support
✅ How to handle court issues

There will also be time for you to ask questions and get personal advice. Registration is not required.

As part of the Rural Access to Immigrant Legal Services (RAILS) initiative, PBRC will now be offering immigration legal services in Maryland’s Eastern Shore. We are looking to build out a team to launch and deliver these services, including hiring for the following roles:

The Partners for Justice Conference takes place annually, and presents a unique opportunity for legal services program staff, the public and private bar, members of the judiciary, and other advocates to address how we can collectively improve access to justice.

August is Make-A-Will Month!

A will is a legal document that directs your property to be distributed as you see fit. Without a will, the state decides how to distribute your assets, which may not reflect your wishes.

PBRC’s Home Preservation Project (HPP) hosts free, in-person estate planning clinics at which lawyers meet one-on-one with eligible Baltimore homeowners to prepare free wills, financial powers of attorney, and advance medical directives.

HPP will be hosting the following estate planning clinics throughout the fall:
