Help is desperately needed this week. We are overcapacity and overwhelmed. We started last week with nearly 400 animals in our care, both at the shelter and in foster. Over the last 7 days, we took in 300+ more animals, on top of keeping our vaccine, spay/neuter and medical emergency appointments for another 100 owned pets. In total, we have juggled trying to provide services and save the lives of more than 800 special, important and deserving animals.
**WE ARE WAIVING FEES (THROUGH SUNDAY) AND ONBOARDING EMERGENCY FOSTERS**
We know this is the last week of summer for many families, and so schedules are full, but we desperately need adopters immediately. Additionally, our foster homes are maxed out. BARCS needs new people to join our foster team ASAP who can take large adult dogs and adult cats.
We want to make sure everyone understands how dire this situation is: animals in our shelter are at risk today if we don’t get adopters in our doors. So if you aren’t in the position to adopt or foster, please share this situation with your friends and family. BARCS is Baltimore’s only open-admission shelter; even though we’re full, more animals will continue to enter our doors via Baltimore City Animal Control and citizens in crisis. Without our community’s help, our team will be forced to make impossible choices. We understand this level of transparency is difficult to take in, but without help, we’re left with very few options.
ADDRESS: 2490 Giles Road, Baltimore, MD 21225
HOURS: Weekdays from 2-6 p.m. and weekends from 11 a.m.-4 p.m.
You can make the biggest impact by visiting our shelter and inquiring about dogs who are already spayed/neutered and can leave today.
There are more animals available in our shelter than on our website, so please visit us in person to see everyone who needs saving.
Donations: We are consistently taking in 300+ animals a week. This volume is higher than we’ve experienced since 2016 and is more than BARCS is budgeted for. We are struggling significantly with our increased medical and care expenses. Please, if you can, give today. These animals deserve a good outcome, but we can't do it without our community’s help… YOUR help.
Thank you.💙
