We are, of course, closed this Labor Day. 🌞One day is not nearly enough to show my appreciation for the small team of rockstars that make things happen here. Like a lot of small businesses, we have balanced more responsibility and complexity on less staff than at any other point of my nearly 30-year career. While you can teach skill and efficiency, you cannot teach people to care as fully as this team does.

Happy Nurses Week to those who spend their days caring for others! We wanted to show our appreciation for some special nurses who care for many of our clients. Syracuse Home/McHarrie Community nurses-we are coming for you tomorrow with ice cream and other goodies. 🧑🏽‍⚕️👨🏻‍⚕️🩺🍦

In order to cheer things up around the office, we had a different theme every day of this week. Today was “Dress like an Elf Day”. Perhaps Tricia didn’t get the memo. 😜

We have certainly had a trying year and, as COVID numbers rise affecting too many of our clients, the last 6 weeks have been particularly difficult. The emotional toll of our work is often unrecognized. It pales in comparison, however, to the emotional toll we have witnessed on caregivers and families we meet. It’s heartbreaking.

Our office is closed until next week so that we can pause and celebrate the blessings of the season safely with our families. We hope that you will find peace in the simple offerings of the holiday season - whatever it means to you.

The 2 elves in this picture on either side of me work their tails off. I am so grateful for them. 🎄🙏🏻

As we head into the winter months and continue to deal with the coronavirus, and in response to the recent and disappointing uptick of cases in our community, we are transitioning most of our meetings to a virtual platform. If Zoom or Facetime is not accessible to clients, we will arrange for a telephone meeting. We will have very limited access to in-person meetings until further notice.

• We realize this is difficult. It is difficult for us, too. We also realize, however, that the only way to stay safe and keep everyone safe is to limit contact when feasible.

• We have had multiple clients lose their battle with the virus. We are 100% committed to doing our part to prevent any more death and illness among the people we love.

• We also represent and partner with many small businesses who are fighting to stay afloat through this. We recognize that many of those businesses simply cannot survive without safe in-person contact. The law business is not one of those. We can and will do our part so that our business partners and friends can keep their doors open.

• Many of our clients are health care professionals. We know they are exhausted. Our appreciation for their dedication and expertise is endless. We are trying to support them by being part of the solution to end the spread of this deadly illness.

• Sloan DeLaney PC is a law firm. People call upon us for expert and compassionate advice. We respect and collaborate with experts in every field to help us deliver great service to our clients. That respect and collaboration extends beyond our doors and practice area to the fields of science and medicine. We stand committed to scientists and medical experts to help us through this.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. Please stay healthy and check in on your neighbors and friends. Our only way out of this is to help each other.
