The landlord-tenant relationship, the laws affecting them and the way in which the New York Courts have been handling them have been in a state of constant change of late and there have been conflicting pronouncements from the Governor, the legislature and the Chief Judges of the Courts with respect to landlord-tenant matters. The policy makers are all trying to navigate the re-opening of New York to the best of their ability, but it’s been creating a lot of confusion for landlords and tenants alike. We’ve been monitoring them all and working to make sense of it for our existing landlord clients, and we will provide updates as the State’s plans are set, but in the meantime we would encourage anyone with specific questions or issues in this area to reach out to us and we’d be happy to guide them as best we can. - Jim Clark

What's the best way to collect rent...

The best ways to collect rent, I hear a lot about this. Usually, I just tell people whatever's easiest. The above is a clip from a presentation that attorney, Jim Clark made to the East Coast Real Estate Investors Association (“ECREIA”) in March, 2019.

Should you even have a lease?

A successful real estate transaction relies on more than a lot of research and advice from friends. Hiring a real estate lawyer who know the law and potential pitfalls, will protect you and your investment.
