Please note: my new web address is virginiawgreenway.com (formerly virginiagreenway.com). Additionally please note that the Google address of 811 Nueces cannot be changed but is NOT a good address for me. I let go of that lease in August of 2020. Do not send mail there or expect to locate me there. I am still practicing but not from that location. Thanks.

If you haven’t talked about fentanyl yet with your kids please do. It is already an adulterant in more common drugs kids might try and these fentanyl tabs look like candy. Yikes.

The US Drug Enforcement Administration issued a warning Tuesday about "brightly-colored fentanyl used to target young Americans."

Experience matters. I have been defending citizens accused of criminal activity for fourteen years. I have been able to build a practice off of nothing more than word of mouth for a reason. My clients like my work. I have never advertised. So if you see a glossy ad or come on from a lawyer purporting to do this work and do it well, your due diligence is still required. I would suggest you first look at when they were licensed which can easily be found on the State Bar of Texas website. A new lawyer simply has not practiced long enough to proclaim expertise in this area. And yet they do. The experience, relationships, and reputation built over the course of a career matters in securing the best outcome for your case. I was licensed in 1999 and have practiced exclusively in the field of criminal law since 2001. I am a former Presiding Director and board member of Austin Criminal Defense Lawyer's Association.
I am not a dabbler and I do nothing but criminal defense. This field gets all of my time, interest, and energy and I love being able to help people in crisis. Prosecutors, Judges, and clients know they can trust me and this alone provides for a leg up in every case. And my results and reviews speak for themselves. I would invite you to check them. So just be mindful that technical savvy, social media hype, and declarations of competence do not mean a thing without the experience to back it up. Please use caution when hiring a lawyer and know that I would welcome the opportunity to assist you with any criminal case or accusation. You can rest assured I know what I'm doing and will secure the best possible outcome for you in any case. Take care and stay safe.

Sometimes your client is innocent. But it's hard to convince prosecutors of that understandably. I'm happy this person had the guts to switch horses to get someone to listen to him. The trumped up new charges were dismissed and the active probations these charges put in jeopardy were discharged. And he gets his life back. We must avoid getting too jaded in this job and that goes for both the State and the defense. When the risk of defending your innocence is prison it can be very scary and that fear sometimes makes people give up and take a deal. I'm glad to have avoided that in this case. And I'm so thankful for prosecutors who pursue justice, not convictions.

I have had so so many LGBT clients over the years and I've contacted some today to let them know I'm thinking of them. But I got a new phone so I don't have everyone's contact information unfortunately. Anyhow, I am thinking of all of you. Past and current. I have loved working with each and every one of you and I know some of the struggle you face even when not dealing with such outright atrocities. Anyhow, I am sorry such hatred still exists and I hope you are feeling the love wherever you are. 😔❤️

Someone asked last week if they could just keep me on retainer. I've been asked this several times over the years and as much as I'd love to take your money for this "service" the answer is always the same. Nope. This question just tells me the person intends to continue to engage in potentially criminal conduct. I don't want that for anyone. And you shouldn't want that for yourself. So just keep your noses clean folks. Jail sucks. And the whole vast and crushing system in which we work is a grind. Try hobbies and jobs that are legal. You might like it. And even if you don't it's a better plan than the alternative.

Merry Christmas to all my clients new and old! I wish you safety and success in every endeavor. Thank you for all of your faith and loyalty and hard work over the years. In this ballgame the lawyer cannot do it alone. Your efforts to persevere after difficult life circumstances get my full admiration. Keep up the good work and prosper!!! Proud of you.

People often ask "how do you defend THOSE people." As if "those people" couldn't be you, your neighbor, your best friend, your kid . . . Well if you have to ask and you're a lawyer I'm glad you didn't choose this line of work. Because you would be terrible at it. And I won't ask you how you do the soul killing legal work that you do. Because I'm A) polite and B) I don't care to know. Just thank your lucky stars you have not needed anyone to defend you against the mighty power of the State of Texas and let's hope it stays that way. Most of the people I get the privilege to defend are JUST LIKE YOU. Only a little less lucky on any given day than you have been. And the defense of all these nameless faceless people protects the constitutional rights of everyone else. That's a slap. I hope you heard it.
