✨ Victory! ✨

This week, our team achieved a major win in a Texas Civil Commitment case—protecting our client’s freedom and pushing back against unnecessary government overreach.

Civil commitment cases in Texas carry some of the harshest consequences imaginable: a lifetime of state control long after a criminal sentence is complete. The stakes are nothing less than a person’s liberty.

In this case, we fought tirelessly to ensure that the State met its burden of proof. Through careful cross-examination and expert testimony, we exposed weaknesses in the government’s case and showed that our client did not meet the criteria for indefinite civil commitment. We tried the case once and got a hung jury!

The result? Our client walked free.

At Gunter, Bennett & Anthes, we believe every person deserves a strong defense, and every liberty is worth protecting. Wins like this remind us why we fight—because freedom matters.
