Nothing can fully prepare you for the first Christmas without your kids.

Not every divorced couple can co-parent. Some situations are just too high-conflict. That doesn't mean your kids are stuck in the middle forever.

Parallel parenting is designed for exactly this. Here's how it works:

1️⃣ Each parent runs their own household independently — no constant coordination required.

2️⃣ What happens at the other house isn't your responsibility to manage or correct.

3️⃣ The less you need from your ex, the less power they have over your peace.

It's not the ideal outcome. But it's a workable one — and far better than staying locked in conflict.

If your ex is violating the custody order or using your kids as leverage, document everything. Patterns of behavior matter if you ever need to return to court.

For the first year post-divorce, follow your custody order exactly as written.

Every parent needs time to find their footing in the new reality before trying to negotiate changes.

Once the boundaries are clear and trust is established, then you can talk about making adjustments.

You and your ex can agree to any holiday arrangement you want after your divorce.

But if things go sideways, the court order is what controls, and the consequences of not following it are serious.

For at least the first year, follow your order as written. Learn the boundaries before you start making deals.

There is a kind of exhaustion women carry that doesn’t show up on bloodwork.

You know the one.

The kind where you are doing all the things.
Showing up.
Keeping the wheels on.
Taking care of everybody.
And somewhere along the way… you disappeared inside your own life.

Not because you’re weak.
Not because you failed.

But because most of us were taught this was what being a “good woman” looked like.

Keep the peace.
Ask for less.
Need less.
Save it for later.

Later when the kids are older.
Later when things calm down.
Later when everybody else is okay.

Sis… what if later never comes?

Episode 3 of Not Saving It For Later hit me in the chest.

I sat down with Abby Eckel and we talked about the thing women feel but rarely say out loud:

The invisible prison.

The quiet ways we stop centering ourselves.
The guilt.
The resentment.
The exhaustion of managing everyone else while slowly abandoning ourselves.

And maybe the hardest truth of all:

You do not need another person to become the greener grass.

You are the greener grass.

We talked about:

✨ Why women lose themselves inside marriage and motherhood
✨ The invisible labor nobody talks about
✨ Why “just leave” is not real advice
✨ Small ways to center yourself again
✨ The truth about worth, guilt, and taking up space
✨ And the line I hope stays with you:

Avoidance always sends an invoice.
This episode is not anti-marriage.
It is not anti-men.

It is pro-you.

Pro-awareness.
Pro-truth.
Pro-coming back home to yourself.

If you have been feeling tired… unseen… resentful… or quietly wondering, is this really it?

I made this one for you.

If you and your spouse can agree on the key issues, you may never have to step inside a courtroom.

A judge can sign off on your agreement without you ever appearing, as long as both sides are on the same page.

Most people breeze past education decision provisions during mediation without realizing how much they matter.

Health, medical, and education decisions can become the most divisive issues in your entire post-divorce life.

If you are already in a sticky situation, it may be time to talk to an attorney about a custody modification.

Texas courts alternate holidays annually. One parent gets the first half of Christmas break in odd years. The other gets it in even years. Thanksgiving, spring break, birthdays — all rotate on a schedule.

You won't be sharing Christmas dinner. You'll be taking turns having Christmas.

The first year is the hardest. There will be a first holiday you spend without your kids. Go in with realistic expectations, follow the order as written, and give everyone time to adjust.
