Are you a parent or other supporter of teens or early-20-somethings navigating transition services during remote or hybrid instruction? The US Dept. of Education just reaffirmed:
"Recognizing that COVID-19 has resulted in students accessing educational services differently than in the past, whether it be virtually, in-person, or a hybrid approach, the importance of the provision of transition and pre-employment transition services has not changed." Recent guidance encourages schools and VR agencies to "use the flexibility afforded under the IDEA and the Rehabilitation Act to engage in innovative strategies, involving students and youth with disabilities and their families in the transition and pre-employment transition processes."

Federal officials are reminding schools and vocational rehabilitation agencies of their responsibility to work together to help students with disabilities transition to adulthood.

Parents who must stay home from work to care for their adult children with disabilities due to coronavirus-related closures may qualify for paid leave, federal official say.

MiddleWayLaw has just had its first birthday! 🥳 Year One brought amazing clients -- every one unique -- and stimulating, specialized projects. Year Two is accelerating fast, as MiddleWay has joined the newest Texas Opportunity & Justice Incubator (TOJI) cohort. TOJI is a State Bar of Texas program committed to helping innovative solo practice firms bridge the justice gap by pioneering new ways to reach real people who need legal services, but who typically don't -- or can't -- access them. I am humbled to have been selected to be a part of this group, and so very grateful to all of you. You have each helped me to get to this place: one more step in the direction of making systemic change in the way special education disputes are resolved, and opening doors for young people with disabilities.
