MLK Day is one of our favorite days to work for our clients! Most years we watch the parade come past our office, taking inspiration from how far we have come, while representing our clients who know how far we still need to go. We hope next year we can see the parade come down 11th again.

Edwards Law continued the Ambler family's fight for justice yesterday by filing their federal lawsuit against Williamson County. The suit accuses Sheriff Robert Chody of prioritizing the production of the (now cancelled) Live PD television show over the safety of citizens like Javier Ambler.

The suit makes multiple allegations about the Williamson County Sheriff's Office and claims the agency encouraged a culture of violence that led to Ambler's death.

"Anthony Evans was shot on the evening of May 31 after multiple people had been shot in the head with these so-called beanbag rounds and had suffered devastating injuries – including serious brain injuries," Jeff Edwards said. "And that the leadership at APD allowed that to happen, and, in fact, authorized it – expressly authorized it – and designed it to happen is unconscionable."

A tremendous victory for the men living in the Pack Unit yesterday. Judge Keith Ellison has ordered the Texas Department of Criminal Justice to provide meaningful protections from COVID-19 at the geriatric prison, where 20 men have died of the disease, and over 40% of prisoners have become infected.

The permanent order by U.S. District Judge Keith P. Ellison goes into effect Oct. 14 at the Wallace Pack Unit in Navasota.

A police officer jumped over Eric's property, without a warrant, then threw him to the ground, breaking his ribs and knocking out a tooth. A federal judge allowed his lawsuit to go forward yesterday.

A Texas federal judge ruled Thursday that an Austin-area sheriff's deputy must face claims that he violated the constitutional rights of a man by jumping the gate to his property and throwing him down to the ground by his neck while he was handcuffed, breaking three ribs.

Maredith went to a Black Lives Matter demonstration to help provide first aid to other demonstrators. After police shot a Black man in the head with a bean-bag shotgun, critically injuring him, Maredith tried to help him, carrying him away to receive medical attention from EMS. Then the Austin Police Department shot her with a bean-bag shotgun too.

Edwards Law supports the NBA, WNBA, and players from all the other sports leagues that are using their platform to stand up for racial justice. Milwaukee Bucks' guard Sterling Brown was brutalized by police after being ticketed for a traffic offense - much like our clients who are assaulted by officers for committing minor offenses (or often, no offense at all). Today we are all Bucks fans.

The NBA postponed all three playoff games set to take place on Wednesday after the Bucks decided to not take the court to protest the recent police shooting in Wisconsin.

Students at wealthy private schools were promised in-person education, and paid substantial sums to get it. When all classes moved online, schools like SMU refused to pay a partial refund. See Jeff Edwards discuss why students like Luke Hogan brought suit to refund part of their tuition.

Luke Hogan's attorneys are seeking to represent thousands of students like him in a class action lawsuit.

Texas Medicaid officials deny coverage for medications that cure Hepatitis C - a deadly condition that damages the liver. We're fighting to change that.
