Sometimes you need a lawyer. Sometimes you need more information. And sometimes it's hard to know what you need. When you call the Maine State Bar Association's Lawyer Referral Service, you will speak with experienced staff who can help you figure it out. If you need information, we will direct you to appropriate resources. If you need legal advice, we will refer you to an appropriate lawyer. LRS charges a $25 fee for the referral, which includes a brief consultation with the attorney.

FYI: The Maine Judicial Branch announced today that due to an increase in the number of infections statewide, the Supreme Judicial Court has issued a revised Post-Pandemic Management Order (PPMO) effective August 16, 2021 reinstating the requirement for all visitors to wear a face covering or mask at all times while in a courthouse regardless of vaccination status. Any person who refuses to wear a face covering will be refused entrance and provided with a contact number for assistance. The requirement to wear a face covering in public indoor settings is in accordance with Maine CDC recommendations.

The American Bar Association mourns the death of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg and expresses its deepest sympathy to her family. Ginsburg, who passed away on Friday night at the age of 87, was a ground-breaking jurist, and only the second woman appointed to the Supreme Court, where she served for 27 years.
