"We write today on behalf of the Alabama Association for Justice in response to the recent reporting on the Alabama Department of Insurance’s liability insurance claims cost report, which claims rising liability claim severity and large verdicts as factors in higher insurance costs across the state.

We agree that the cost of liability insurance is an important concern for Alabama families and businesses. It’s understandable that rising insurance premiums attract attention from policymakers, insurers and the media.

But it is equally important for the public to understand why these costs are rising — and who bears the burden of those increases," Clint Mountain writes.

Any injury to your brain is a brain injury and should be taken seriously. And yes, a concussion is an injury to your brain.

Earlier this year, brain injury experts met to discuss updating the terminology we use to characterize traumatic brain injuries. This new system would move away from labeling brain injuries as mild, moderate, and severe and would instead use other criteria, like blood biomarkers and CT scans, to evaluate the injury. Shepherd Center is such an incredible place. Not everyone has the opportunity to get treatment there, but of the folks who do, the treatment process and recovery journeys are fascinating to witness.

There’s a significant gap in availability of care, from missed diagnoses and follow up treatment referrals at local levels, for Concussions and “Mild” Traumatic Brain Injuries.
