Le Chateau was once named Echidna, the home of Hayden Crosby who decorated the home extravagantly and threw lavish parties that attracted the elite from around the world, including the Duke of Windsor.

Crosby sold the home in 1944 to the owner of the Atlantic Beach Hotel and it became the Atlantic Beach Club.

Preben Johansen bought the property in 1959 and it became the Le Chateau of legend. With oceanfront dining, elegant decor and amazing food, Le Chateau hosted both locals and world famous visitors. Liberace was known to listen in at the piano bar and even play a few songs while in town.
