Walking along Fulton Street. Started in Bed Stuy and continued through to Clinton Hill to Fort Greene and finally ended up in downtown Brooklyn. Those Central Brooklyn neighborhoods look like what downtown Brooklyn used to be, and downtown Brooklyn resembles midtown Manhattan. 12-stories +, 50 - 100 units +. Shake Shake, Chipotle, Corcoran, and more. Evolution -- gentrification? -- transforming the fabric and feel of these neighborhoods. Awestruck? Dumbfounded? Saddened? Elated? Maybe all of it. It's always great to come home, but it is always so very thought-provoking. These are the stories about which I write. My prayer, my hope, my one sincere wish for the people who grew up in these neighborhoods, watched (and lived!) as these changes happened is this: I hope your (our) family was fortunate enough to invest in real estate ahead of all these changes, I pray that we were able to capitalize on the wealth that has come along with these changes. I hope that wealth is cataclysmic, productive, and progressive in its impact on our families. Amen.
