Before filing for divorce, know what matters most in your case.

If children are involved, understanding the factors a judge considers when determining custody is essential. If significant assets are involved, remember that Georgia follows equitable distribution — meaning property is divided based on what the court considers fair, not automatically 50/50.

Every divorce is different. The key is identifying the potential issues in your case, being clear about what you want, and understanding that the final outcome may require compromise.

Knowing what to expect before you file can help you make more informed decisions from the start.

Moving away can change more than your address. It can change your custody arrangement too.

If one parent relocates out of state or even several hours away, the current parenting plan may no longer be realistic.

A move from Atlanta to Savannah, for example, could make a week on, week off schedule difficult to maintain and may be considered a substantial change that supports modifying custody sooner.

When distance changes the logistics, the parenting plan may need to change with it.

A prenup or postnup doesn’t have to mean you’re planning for the relationship to end.
Sometimes, it simply means having an important conversation about expectations, finances, and the future.

If it’s something you’ve been thinking about, avoiding the topic can create frustration or resentment. Whether you bring it up over dinner, in counseling, or during a private conversation, communication is key.

Have the conversation before the silence becomes the problem.

If you suspect your spouse is hiding money during a divorce, the next steps depend on what kind of assets or income may be involved.

Cash income can be difficult to trace, especially when it has historically been underreported. But when money is being moved through businesses, bank accounts, or other financial channels, subpoenas and financial investigators may help uncover the bigger picture.

If significant assets are at stake, getting the right legal and financial guidance early can make a major difference.

08/24/2026

Co-parenting isn’t always easy, especially when communication is already strained.

When emotions are high, written communication can help keep conversations clear, focused, and easier to reference later. Texts and emails can reduce misunderstandings around tone and keep important discussions centered on what matters most: the children.

Clear communication can make a difficult co-parenting relationship much easier to navigate.

08/21/2026

Child support doesn’t automatically cover every expense that comes with raising a child.

Extracurricular activities, sports equipment, tutoring, and other additional costs can quickly become a source of conflict between co-parents, especially when the parenting plan doesn’t clearly spell out who is responsible for what.

A well-drafted parenting plan can set expectations before the invoices start arriving, reducing unnecessary arguments and keeping the focus where it belongs: on the child.

When communication between co-parents is difficult, clarity on paper matters even more.
