🖋️ Cursive, Signatures, and the Modern Mortgage Closing 🏡
At IronHoof Notary Services, we’ve seen a growing trend: many younger signers have never learned cursive. It’s not a flaw, it’s a shift in education. But when it comes to mortgage closings, it raises an important question:
Does a signature have to be in cursive?
✅ The answer: No. Legally, a signature is simply a mark that a person intends to use to authenticate a document. Whether it’s cursive, printed, or a stylized scribble, what matters is consistency and intent (intent emphasized).
📄 During signings, we guide clients, especially first-time buyers, through what’s required. If your signature is printed, that’s okay. If it’s a hybrid of print and flair, that’s okay too. What’s not okay? Changing it mid-signing.
At IronHoof, we don’t just notarize, we educate, empower, and ensure every signer feels confident. Whether you’re signing with a flourish or a firm print, we’ve got you covered.
