A 2006 audit shows nearly 60 percent of basic public records were unavailable to student journalists on Ohio campuses. With tough budget and personal decisions on the horizon, the time for transparency is now.

Zack Meisel did his job as a student journalist at Ohio State University and published a story that helped bring Jim Tressel down; now he's paying a price for it.
