It isn’t just about Supreme Court picks. The group’s impact on the law goes much deeper.

Is there much irony in the lack of intellectual diversity among law professors? What may be done to alter the balance?

Last year, The Federalist Society at UGA Law was honored to have Ilya Shapiro discuss the Voting Rights Act decision with our very own Professor Christian Turner. Today, these two were back at it again discussing yet another controversial topic, the existence of corporate rights after Hobby Lobby and Citizens United. Thanks to all who attended!

The Federalist Society will be having an event tomorrow, Thursday, October 9th, at 2:30 in Room C.

Josh Blackman will be speaking on executive actions. Blackman is a professor at South Texas College of Law in Houston. He is the founder and President of the Harlan Institute and the founder of FantasySCOTUS.net, the Internet's Premier Supreme Court Fantasy League. He is the author of "Unprecedented: The Constitutional Challenge to Obamacare" and over a dozen other articles about constitutional law. Blackman clerked for the Honorable Danny J. Boggs on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 6th Circuit and for the Honorable Kim R. Gibson on the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania. Find out more about him here: http://joshblackman.com/blog/

Also, as the event is not during a mealtime, we will be providing a snack/dessert (likely cookies or cupcakes)!

Kevin Walsh argues that if the 6th Circuit is inclined to uphold bans on same-sex marriage, they should instead certify the question directly to the Supreme Court. This is a rarely used procedure, that may be appropriate in this case.

On the eve of a new Supreme Court session, the firebrand justice discusses gay rights and media echo chambers, Seinfeld and the Devil, and how much he cares about his intellectual legacy (“I don’t”).
