Congratulations to Garrett's son, Luke, for graduating from the U.S. Naval Academy Class of 2025 and becoming a 2nd Lieutenant in the Marine Corps! The Blue Angels flew over the Commissioning Ceremony at Navy-Marine Corps Stadium, Annapolis, MD. This year’s class graduated 1,049 new Navy ensigns and Marine Corps 2nd lieutenants. To all of our clients, first of all we hope you and your families are safe. For this week (9/30-10/4) the office will be closed due to the loss of power and water and for our staff to tend to their families and stay safe themselves. Bravo Zulu (see explanation below) to Veterans attorney Garrett Artz. Garrett is a graduate of the United States Naval Academy and spent a day in early February facilitating leadership discussions with small groups of senior midshipmen at Annapolis as part of the Naval Academy’s First Class Character Capstone Seminar ( https://rb.gy/f5yw4b ). The seminars are focused on decision-making, moral courage, and leadership for junior Navy or Marine Corps Officers. Garrett served ten years on active duty as a Navy Helicopter Pilot and currently practices veterans law for the Leaven Law Firm.

"Bravo Zulu is a naval signal, conveyed by flaghoist or voice radio, meaning 'well done'; it has also passed into the spoken and written vocabulary. "Bravo Zulu" actually comes from the Allied Naval Signal Book (ACP 175 series), an international naval signal code adopted after the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) was created in 1949. Until then, each navy had used its own signal code and operational manuals. World War II experience had shown that it was difficult, or even impossible, for ships of different navies to operate together unless they could readily communicate, and ACP 175 was designed to remedy this."
