From the Legal Assistant's Desk

When you call the office, unless you are an existing client, you won't be put through to any of the attorneys. And existing clients usually need to set an appointment time. If you have an issue you would like to seek legal advice for, whomever answers the phone will need to do an "Intake" with you. This is how we gather the information to send out to the attorneys in the firm to determine whether:

1. You have a case
2. Any of the attorneys at the firm can take it on

We understand that no one wants to pay a consult fee only to find out that they cannot be helped by the firm. Hence, the intake. We will ask for your contact information, the Opposing or Adverse parties and a brief synopsis of your issue. Please try to stick to the facts. We understand that you may be stressed/upset and we sympathise but can only use the factual information. We can and do pass on the information that this is a stressful issue for you. We need to know the Adverse parties for a "Conflict Check". (We will not contact them) If anyone that you are having an issue with has been represented in the past by any attorney at the firm, it is a conflict and we cannot take the case. There are other reasons that a Conflict may arise, but that is the main one.

Hopefully this helps folks to understand why they cannot simply speak with an attorney when they call a law firm with a new case/matter.
