Every spring, the Chesapeake begins to stir. Migratory birds return. Grasses green along the tidal margins. And new life takes root.

🌱 This year, something new is taking root at Chesapeake Legal Alliance, too! Help support our clerkship program, as well as our two new programs: our Environmental Mediation Service and Of Counsel program!

🎉 We’re proud to celebrate a major achievement from a Chesapeake Legal Alliance law clerk!

Building on her work with CLA and their partnership with the Indigenous Conservation Council of the Chesapeake Bay, Lauren Wiederkehr co-authored an article—“Returning to Indigenous Knowledge: Coastal Preservation Success Stories in Tribal-Federal-State Partnerships”—now published in the March 2026 edition of the Sea Grant Law & Policy Journal.

Her research highlights how Indigenous leadership and traditional ecological knowledge strengthen climate resilience and restoration efforts across coastal regions, including the Chesapeake Bay.

Congratulations, Lauren—we’re excited to see the impact of your work continue 🌿
