๐ŸŒŸ Monthly Team Member Spotlight ๐ŸŒŸ

This month, we're excited to spotlight Kim Esmores, Paralegal at Azarvand Tax Law!

Nearly a year and a half ago, we welcomed Kim to Azarvand Tax Law as a Legal Assistant. What followed has been a story of steady, impressive growth, and we couldn't be prouder.

Within her first year, Kim earned a promotion to Paralegal, a recognition well deserved by anyone who has had the pleasure of working alongside her. Now she's taking her commitment even further, currently pursuing her Enrolled Agent credentials, a rigorous designation that will give her the ability to assist our clients directly before the IRS.

What makes Kim exceptional isn't just her technical growth, though that has been remarkable. It's the combination of competence and warmth she brings to every interaction. Clients trust her. Our attorneys rely on her. And she approaches every new challenge that comes her way, whether it's a complicated tax filing or an unfamiliar jurisdiction, with the same quiet determination that earned her that first promotion.

We're proud to have Kim on the Azarvand Tax Law team, and we're excited to see what she accomplishes next!

Do you hold a financial account outside the United States? ๐ŸŒ๐Ÿฆ

You may have a federal reporting obligation with an often overlooked federal agency, FinCEN (Financial Crimes Enforcement Network).

While foreign bank accounts are by far the most common trigger, it is important to note that the reporting requirement extends to a broad range of foreign financial accounts, such as foreign pension plans, trusts, and investment accounts.

If you are a U.S. person, including citizens, residents (such as green card holders or those meeting the substantial presence test), trusts, or domestic entity, and the aggregate value of your foreign financial accounts exceeded $10,000 at any point during the year, you are required to file with FinCEN.

That $10,000 threshold is calculated by adding up all of your covered foreign financial accounts together, across every country, not account by account.

Follw us on Instagram () for part 2, where we dig into the applicable FBAR penalties.

Are you a taxpayer impacted by Super Typhoon Sinlaku? ๐Ÿšจ

Relief is on the way, but where you live matters. Following actions by President Trump, Governor Guerrero, and Governor Apatang, both U.S. territories have relief in place, but taxpayers living in Guam are not in the same position as those living in the CNMI. The differences are significant.
