As a veteran who served in Iraq, I understand that service is not just an idea. It is people. It is families. It is sacrifice. It is the empty seat at the table for those who gave everything and never came home.

Memorial Day is not simply about honoring military service generally. It is about remembering the men and women who paid the ultimate price for this country.

Today, I pause with gratitude, humility, and respect.

To the fallen, we remember you.

To their families, we honor your sacrifice.

May we never forget.

📢NACBA State Win in Maryland!

NACBA applauds the final passage of Senate Bill 939, landmark legislation establishing Maryland’s first state homestead exemption in bankruptcy. The bill now heads to Governor Wes Moore for signature.

Once enacted, effective June 1, 2026, SB 939 will create a $125,000 homestead exemption for Maryland bankruptcy filers, applicable to both single and joint filers, marking a significant advancement in modernizing Maryland’s consumer bankruptcy protections.

NACBA has worked extensively throughout the legislative session in support of Maryland exemption reform and partnered closely with advocates, legislators, and stakeholders to advance protections for Maryland families.

Bankruptcy does not end your credit history. In many cases, it removes the debt that is hurting your credit and allows you to begin rebuilding. A fresh financial start can also be the start of better credit.

Expecting a tax refund this year? If you are also thinking about filing bankruptcy, timing is critical. Your refund may be considered an asset in a Chapter 7 or Chapter 13 case. With proper planning, many people are able to protect all or a significant portion of their refund. Filing too early or spending funds the wrong way can create avoidable problems.

Before you deposit or spend that refund, make sure you understand how it could affect your case. A strategic approach can help you protect your money and move toward a true fresh start.
