Kerrytown: the most accessible corner of downtown Ann Arbor

Ask people what they love about downtown Ann Arbor and the conversation eventually lands in Kerrytown — the pocket just north and east of Main Street where a 100-plus-year-old farmers market, a legendary deli, an intimate concert house, and a river trail all sit within a few blocks of each other.

What makes it special isn't one attraction. It's how much good, independent, non-chain life is packed into a handful of blocks. The Ann Arbor Farmers Market, People's Food Co-op, Monahan's Seafood, and Zingerman's mean you can do a full week of groceries without leaving the neighborhood. Dinner is Miss Kim, PizzaPazza, Heidelberg, or Detroit Street Filling Station. Afterward there's live music at Kerrytown Concert House or North Star Lounge. Shopping is independent from end to end — yarn at Spun, jewelry at Thistle & Bess, and one of Michigan's best browsing blocks for books and records on Fourth Ave. And the Huron River is three blocks away, with Argo Park, the canoe livery, the Cascades, and the Border-to-Border Trail.

It all works however you get around: on foot, by bike, on TheRide, or with a short drive and parking nearby (county lots are free after 6 p.m. and Sundays).

Right now there are about 15 active listings in the Kerrytown area, from roughly $469,000 to $2.2 million — and Trillium has two of them:

515 N. Ashley St. — $599,000 · 3 bed · 2 bath · 1,650 sq ft. A true downtown single-family home, the rarest thing on the list.
