📜 Uptown History

By 1942, the federal government had established an ordnance plant for the manufacture of ammunition on the site now occupied by the John Deere Des Moines Works and surrounding area.

This was an important part of Ankeny’s history during a time when communities across the country were contributing to the war effort. The site would go on to have a long history of manufacturing and industry, becoming part of the area we know today.

From its early days to the community we have today, Ankeny has continued to grow and evolve while carrying its history with it.

Big news for Ankeny! 🙌 U.S. News & World Report ranked Ankeny No. 4 Best Place to Live in the country and No. 1 in Iowa for 2026-2027. Ankeny moved up from No. 18 nationally last year.

U.S. News evaluated more than 850 of the country’s top cities based on how well they meet consumers' living expectations, with measures including value, job market, desirability and quality of life.

We’re proud of this recognition and the community that continues to make Ankeny such a great place to live, work and raise a family. Thank you to the residents, businesses, schools, community partners and City staff who help make this possible every day!

This week, the Mark Gray Law team packaged over 430 meals for "Hope for Haiti" with Lutheran Church of Hope. This is a great program that provides food for families in need. The goal was to package a total of 1.2 Million Meals over three days, and MGL is grateful to be surrounded by such a dedicated, kind and supportive team that gives back to the community!

Congratulations to Tiara for passing the Iowa Bar Exam!

Many of you know Tiara from her years as a paralegal for MGL, but behind the scenes she has been attending law school classes on nights and weekends and graduated in December. Next week she will be sworn in by the Iowa Supreme Court and will transition from paralegal to lawyer for MGL. We are so proud of you for your years of hard work!!
