Before you waste $70 on a sheet of siding trying to guess this angle, do this ✅

Hold your level horizontally on the wall, starting underneath the gable overhang. Level over and make a mark at exactly 12 inches.

Next, from that 12-inch mark, hold your level vertically and run it up until it meets the roofline.

Now measure that vertical distance.

If it measures 13 inches, that means you have 12 inches of run and 13 inches of rise — so you’ve got a 13/12 roof pitch.

Transfer that measurement to your siding board, make your cut, and you’re ready to install.

Here’s the labor and material cost to drywall my 2,375 sq. ft. home.

There are a couple different ways to price a drywall job, but we typically price it per board for hanging and finishing.

Drop any questions you have about your drywall job in the comments!

And if you want to see the full build cost breakdown, check out the YouTube link in my bio. I break down what I paid for the different trades and how to tackle a build using a hybrid owner-builder approach.

Remote-controlled roller shade 🙌

Hit up or down on the remote and it does the rest. You can even program exactly how high or low you want it to stop.

Best part? I only have to charge it once or twice a year max. Super clean, simple, and one of my favorite little upgrades to the house.

How I built my house for $130/SQ FT 🏠💰

I built this house for around $310,000 in construction cost — roughly $130 per square foot — not including the land.
I took a hybrid GC/owner-builder approach, managing the project, hiring my own subcontractors, buying materials directly where it made sense, and being hands-on throughout the build.
A few of the actual numbers:
Framing — $55,000
Cabinets — $26,000
HVAC — $16,650
Plumbing — $11,500
Roofing — $11,400
Tile — $11,187
Drywall — $9,600
Windows — $7,800
And this wasn’t about building the cheapest house possible. We still did brick and siding, custom tile showers, high ceilings, a $26K cabinet package, quartz countertops, and upgraded finishes throughout.
The biggest difference was how I priced, managed, and contracted each phase of the build.
I put together a full walkthrough on YouTube where I break down what I paid, how different trades price their work, and some of the ways I kept the overall construction cost down.

Putting the finishing touches on my back yard patio area! 🧱🪴

A few months back, I built this retaining wall then had the backyard patio poured, and today I finally got around to laying the last course of block and finishing the landscaping.

Under the patio is two tri-axle loads of #57 stone, so I installed landscape fabric between the top two courses of block to help keep the mulch from washing into the stone and clogging the drainage.

I also decided to use potted plants instead of a traditional flower bed. That keeps dirt off the patio, also if the kids be kids and demolish a few of them, I can just swap them out with a new ones!

I think it turned out great. Let me know what you think!

How we brace gable overhangs to help prevent sagging over time 💪🔨

Not every framing detail gets noticed, but this one matters. We use a fly brace that runs from the second common truss, through the gable truss, and out to the fly rafter to help support the gable overhang and keep it straight over time.

There are several ways to frame a gable overhang, and every crew has their preferences. This is one method that’s worked well for us.
