In Florida, a wrongful death happens when someone dies because of another person’s negligence. A personal representative (PR) of the deceased’s estate files the claim on behalf of surviving family members, known as “survivors.”
These survivors may be entitled to compensation for:
Loss of support and services
Loss of companionship or parental guidance
Pain and suffering (in some cases)
Medical and funeral expenses
Lost future income or benefits
If the case isn’t settled outside of court, a lawsuit can be filed.
