🚧 ROADS CLOSED 🚧
The Downtown Allegan Infrastructure and Streetscape Project has begun with the removal of trees.
Street trees throughout the project area (including Brady, Hubbard, and Locust streets) will be removed over the next few weeks in advance of the construction that will begin in Spring 2023. The early removal of trees is due to environmental regulations regarding the Indiana Bat and its migratory patterns.
New trees will be planted as part of the newly redesigned streetscape to accompany a rich new landscaping throughout Downtown Allegan when the project is completed.
Work has been ongoing since 2018 to develop a plan to completely reconstruct the Downtown Allegan core. Over the years, City Councilmembers, Downtown Development Authority board members, Public Spaces Commissioners, and City of Allegan staff have worked to come to a shared vision with public input from Allegan residents, business owners, and stakeholders over countless public meetings.
The end result will be a new Downtown Allegan core. Updates throughout the construction process can be found here: https://www.cityofallegan.org/news_detail_T12_R71.php
