Louisiana drivers have an important roadside safety law to know. 🚘

Effective August 1, 2026, Louisiana’s Move Over law was expanded to address more than emergency vehicles. When approaching a disabled, immobilized or nonoperational vehicle displaying hazard lights, flashing lights or other emergency warning devices, drivers on a roadway with two or more lanes traveling in the same direction should move into a lane away from the stopped vehicle when it is safe to do so.

If changing lanes is not possible or safe, or if you are traveling on a two-lane road, slow down to a reasonably safe speed and maintain a safe speed for the conditions.

And when an emergency vehicle approaches with its lights or siren activated, drivers should yield, move as close as possible to the right-hand edge or curb and stop until it passes.
