How would you afford your insurance deductibles if YOU were the victim?
The homeowners will most likely make claims on their homeowner’s insurance, but at Ellis & Estes we know it would be wise to make claims on their own car insurance as well.
In New Mexico, many car insurance policies have what's called "uninsured motorist coverage" that compensates for damages caused by drivers that don't have any insurance or not enough insurance.
Last year, we represented a client whose house was intentionally crashed into by a motorist. Her homeowner’s insurance fixed the damage to her house, but she was out the $1,500 deductible. After she came to us, we made a claim on her uninsured motorist insurance - which by law only has a $250 deductible - and got her more money in the form of punitive damages. At the end of the day, our client was better off than using homeowner’s insurance alone.
