Thank you to our wonderful Criminal Investigations Division who worked in concert with our outstanding patrol officers to bring this case to a close in short order! Although not the crime of the century, it is imperative that we investigate every crime coming to our attention and follow up with Criminal Complaints and arrests when we can! We cannot ignore the smaller crimes because when that occurs they turn into larger crimes! All our deputies and investigators are top notch and you won’t find any better anywhere!

Torrance County Sheriff’s Office Arrests Suspect Following Shoplifting Incident in Willard

Willard, NM – On November 1, 2025, at approximately 10:53 AM, detectives with the Torrance County Sheriff’s Office (TCSO) Criminal Investigations Division (CID) were dispatched to the Willard Cantina in Willard, New Mexico, regarding a reported shoplifting.

TCSO CID detectives reviewed surveillance footage and identified the suspect as Ryan Eric Downing. Downing was observed on video going behind the register while employees were occupied and stealing ci******es.

TCSO Patrol deputies were requested to assist with locating Downing. TCSO deputies quickly located and apprehended him. During questioning, Downing admitted to taking a pack of ci******es from the Willard Cantina.

Downing also had an active warrant related to previous Torrance County Animal Control charges and was additionally charged with Shoplifting.

The Torrance County Sheriff’s Office remains committed to protecting our communities and ensuring that those who commit crimes are held accountable. We appreciate the assistance of everyone involved in bringing this matter to a swift resolution.

In New Mexico, the left lane on highways is intended for overtaking and passing other vehicles, as outlined in New Mexico Statutes Section 66-7-308.

Drivers should not remain in the left lane if they are not actively passing other vehicles to prevent unnecessary congestion and potential hazards.

Emergency situations also permit exceptions, such as when avoiding hazards or providing room for emergency vehicles.

When the Town of Mountainair announced it would help with Homecoming 2025, this was the first thing that came to mind. I wanted an award that could stay at the high school and be a tradition for years to come. Every homecoming, alumni will compete for the title of Mustang Legacy Champions! 🐴✨

How do you win?
The alumni class that brings the most classmates back to Homecoming 2025 will take the crown! You must be there in person, just check in at the alumni table. At halftime, the winning class will be announced, get their picture taken with the award, and have both the trophy and their photo displayed proudly in the high school office for all to see.

I’m so thankful to Orlando for building this beautiful piece and to Michael for bringing it to life with his painting skills. They did this for free as a donation as Mustang Alumni and I am so grateful! They truly made my vision a reality.

So, which alumni class of MHS will be the inaugural Mustang Legacy Champions? We’ll find out this Friday night at the 2025 Homecoming game! 🎉
