It’s that time of year! As you dig your car out every morning, don’t forget to brush off your license plate. This would be a valid basis for a traffic stop. Unfair? Totally, but not necessarily illegal.

If you have received a similar text message from the "BMV" here's how you can tell it's a scam:

1. The BMV is not going to text you about an unpaid ticket.
2. The traffic violation will already be officially recorded with the BMV by the time you would receive any notice from the BMV.
3. Your vehicle registration is not suspended for unpaid traffic tickets, but your driving privileges are suspended for unpaid traffic tickets. There's a difference.
4. There is no minimum license suspension for an unpaid ticket, but there is now a maximum license suspension for an unpaid ticket. Your license can now only be suspended for a maximum period of 3 years for unpaid tickets. Still a long time, but it's definitely better than the indefinite suspension you would've been whacked with in the past.
5. The Courts can send unpaid tickets to a collection agency, but the BMV cannot. Some Courts do this.

What really happens when you do not pay a ticket?
1. The Court sends notice of the failure to pay to the BMV so that your driving privileges are suspended.
2. The BMV mails you a notice about the unpaid ticket and corresponding license suspension.
3. You call me at 260-766-6097 to discuss your options to get back on the road!

Attention current clients and potential clients: DO NOT drive with a license plate frame on your license plate. Remove them immediately, even if it came from the dealership. If your license plate is even slightly obstructed by one of these frames, you are likely to be pulled over.

12 Year Old Pulled Over While Trying to Save Her Puppy In Texas, a 12 year old girl, home sick from school, was thrown into a terrifying situation. Her mom wasn’t answering, and her brand-new puppy was dying before her eyes.

Panicked but determined, she grabbed the car keys. Though she had never driven before, she made it nearly a mile toward the nearest vet, until flashing lights appeared behind her.

The officer who pulled her over quickly realized what was happening. Without hesitation, he rushed the puppy into his car and sped to the vet. Thanks to his quick thinking, the puppy survived.

The girl, already overwhelmed with guilt, was later taken to her mom’s workplace. Before leaving, the officer turned to the mother and said:

“I’d usually give you a lecture, hoping you’d raise a better child. But ma’am you’ve raised an amazing, strong, compassionate, and smart young woman. Let’s just make sure she learns what side of the road to drive on in a few years.”
