No matter what political party you support or your political opinions, please take a moment to consider the cost of your ability to voice those opinions and support your political views.

The United States is truly amazing. We all owe a great debt for the rights and liberties we enjoy. We will be closed Monday, May 25th, in hopes we all take a moment to to consider how fortunate we are and the price paid by men and women in uniform.

When I consider this, I’m left with a humble thank you and a hope that my actions honor and help to fulfill the promise for which so many made the ultimate sacrifice.

PITCHING A FIT IN LITIGATION SHOWS WEAKNESS

At least once a year I get physically threatened during a deposition. Usually it is the person I am cross examining. Yesterday, for the second time in my career, opposing counsel acted out in an irrational way. I mean, he lost it at me. Why... because I called him out for what is called a speaking objection. His objection was not only improper, it suggested to his client how to respond to a question. I was not having it.

As I sat there letting him get it all out, I wondered what his client must be thinking as he slouched deeper into his chair. Once fit was over, I asked if he felt better, invited him to come across the table, then got back to work.

He did not make a single objection over the next three hours of the deposition.

Afterward, he asked if we were good. I told him, of course we are good but that was one of the most unprofessional displays I had ever seen. I let him know his outburst was not going to impact how I approach the case.
