We were honored to welcome Ross Kartez, a member of The New York Bar Foundation Board of Directors, to LIAD as the Foundation presented a Certificate of Congratulations in recognition of its generous grant to the Long Island Alzheimer's and Dementia Center.

During the visit, Ross shared more about The New York Bar Foundation's mission and its commitment to strengthening communities through charitable giving and access to justice. We are grateful for their support and partnership in helping us continue to serve individuals living with Alzheimer's disease and other dementias, as well as their caregivers.

Ruskin Moscou Faltischek, P.C. Partner and New York Bar Foundation Board member Ross Kartez had the pleasure of presenting two grant certificates on behalf of the New York Bar Foundation to organizations making a meaningful impact throughout our community.

The first grant certificate was presented to the Long Island Alzheimer's and Dementia Center and will support Medicaid planning legal services for family caregivers of individuals living with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia. During his visit, Ross had the opportunity to tour the center, meet with Executive Director Tori Cohen and Senior Director of Programs and Services Melissa Katz, and witness firsthand the compassionate care, support services, and resources they provide to individuals and families navigating the challenges of dementia.

The second grant certificate was presented to EAC in support of its efforts to expand access to Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) through education, training, and a court greeter program. Ross also met with COO Tania Peterson Chandler, ADR Program Director Courtney Chicvak, and other members of their team to learn more about the organization's wide-ranging programs and services, which help individuals and families address challenges, strengthen communities, and access critical support systems.

RMF is proud to support organizations that are dedicated to improving the lives of others, and we are grateful to the New York Bar Foundation for its continued commitment to funding programs that increase access to legal services and community resources across New York State.

The New York Bar Foundation is proud to support Scholarship America as a 2026 grantee and its efforts to help aspiring lawyers overcome financial barriers to law school enrollment, persistence, and graduation.

We invite members of the bench and bar, legal employers, educators, nonprofit leaders, and law students to join this important conversation by attending Scholarship America's upcoming webinar on expanding access to legal education through scholarship support and making critical investments in the future of our profession.

The Foundation has long supported scholarships, fellowships, and educational opportunities that strengthen New York's legal community. We are especially grateful for leaders such as Salman Ravala, whose commitment to access to justice includes helping ensure that talented students can afford law school, graduate, and enter a profession dedicated to service to others.

The future of our profession depends on who has the opportunity to enter it. Let's work together to expand those opportunities.

While law school can lead to well-paid careers, the upfront costs are daunting. In addition to the costs, the gender disparity is real: women comprise only 19% of the plaintiff bar. The Milestone Trial LawHER Scholarship, administered by Scholarship America, was established to address these issues b...

"The rule of law does not enforce itself. It depends on us."

Those were the words of our President and Board Chair, the Hon. Cheryl E. Chambers, Associate Justice of the Appellate Division, Second Department, at last night's swearing-in of Taa Grays as President of the New York State Bar Association.

Justice Chambers reflected on the legal profession's long history of defending the rule of law, and on the work that lies ahead at a moment when the independence of our courts is under pressure.
That commitment guides the mission of The New York Bar Foundation: expanding access to justice, investing in the next generation of legal leaders, and defending the values our profession exists to protect.

Congratulations to President Taa Grays. We are honored to stand with her in this work.

Congratulations to Taa Grays on ascending to the presidency of the New York State Bar Association!
