The 2026 legislative session ended late on Friday, June 5. With just one week of post-budget session following a delayed state budget, lawmakers raced to pass bills, with many left unpassed as the clock ran out. Below are some highlights of legislation that passed both chambers – which we have fought hard for and which we’ll be advocating for the governor to sign. Also listed are bills that did not get across the finish line – yet! – but which we’ll be working on next session. The Legal Aid Society of Northeastern New York is grateful to Governor Hochul and members of the New York State Legislature for their support of civil legal services in the recently adopted state budget.

Investments in programs like the Disability Advocacy Program (DAP), the Homeowner Protection Program (HOPP), the Legal Services for Housing Stability Program (LSHP), and the Interest on Lawyer Account Fund (IOLA Fund) help ensure that New Yorkers facing housing instability, disability, and other civil legal challenges have access to critical legal assistance.

Access to justice strengthens families, communities, and our shared future.

We're happy to have MacKenzie Koreman as a Summer Law Clerk!

MacKenzie is a rising second-year law student at Albany Law School with a strong interest in public service and community advocacy. After living in Oregon and Tennessee, she chose to return home to Albany to pursue her legal education, motivated by a desire to make a meaningful impact in her local community. She holds a bachelor's degree in social science from Portland State University and is eager to apply the skills she has developed to engage in community-centered legal work and advance access to justice for those she serves.

Outside of law school, MacKenzie is an avid reader who enjoys spending time outdoors and with her loved ones.

Are you interested in multiple areas of law? We have a staff attorney opening to serve out of our Canton office in a unique dual-program role.

This role will serve the St. Regis Mohawk Tribe through our KAS Project (Kaianerenhsera Aorihwa:ke Shakotihshienons meaning law or legal matters which people help with), and Veterans who are unhoused or at risk of losing their housing through our work with the Department of Veterans Affairs.

If you are interested in becoming an advocate for these communities, we encourage you to apply today. https://bit.ly/LASNNYJobs

Congratulations, to 'Los Guapos' team for being the winners of 2026 LASNNY Golf Classic!

It was a beautiful day for golf, we are so grateful for the incredible weather, and even more grateful for all of our wonderful community members who came out to support LASNNY and our mission.

Los Guapos also won the 2025 LASNNY golf tournament, will they win again in 2027? Or will another team come in for the title?

Tomorrow is the big day.

The 2026 LASNNY Golf Classic is just hours away, and we have all of our fingers crossed because it looks like the forecast is 78 degrees and partly sunny. Sounds like golfing weather!

We look forward to seeing all our players, new and returning, out on the green at Fairways of Halfmoon. https://bit.ly/LASNNYGolfClassicPlayers
