According to TxDOT, State Highway 351 in Taylor County recorded 89 crashes involving commercial vehicles from January to August 2025.

For 2026, State Highway 351 has recorded 138 crashes. This is a 55.1% increase year-over-year for the identical eight-month window.

I represent clients injured by gravel haulers and other commercial vehicles related to data center construction across the state. The injuries resulting from these wrecks are catastrophic. I cannot begin to describe the physical and emotional suffering we witness in the aftermath. While it is easy to blame an individual truck driver for being reckless, that is only part of the story.

Fault is also on the shoulders of the massive corporations that invaded our community to build enormous data centers as fast as possible, no matter what the cost to our community. Speed is their priority. Profits are their priority. Safety is not their priority. We are not their priority.

Each new data center has the same set up: a giant tech company hires a construction company to build a data center. The construction company hires sub-contractors (gravel pits, electrical companies, concrete companies, plumbing companies). Then those subs hire more subs (gravel haulers for the gravel pits, etc.). At each level the profit margins narrow, and contractors become even more motivated to cut corners.

This is how we ended up with gravel haulers risking the lives of so many drivers every day. Each gravel hauler is paid per load. The more loads delivered, the more money they make. Even good and conscientious truck drivers are incentivized to make one more run. Deliver just a few more loads.

This is not a novel problem. It is the same problem that led to limits on how many hours a day long haul truckers can drive or how many hours a day airline pilots can fly. Because given the chance, large corporations will always choose profit over safety.

We are committed to putting a stop to it and making safety a priority again.
