We know that gender is a social construct that is built through cultural, political and social practices that defines what it means to be masculine or feminine, and as such it defines the roles of women, girls, men and boys in a particular society at a particular moment in time.
Gender roles often define what is appropriate to and expected of us as a woman, girl, man or boy. It further determines the status, rights, duties, responsibilities, behaviors and even clothing that a society considers appropriate for a woman, girl, man or boy. This lays the foundation for inequalities, power imbalances and vulnerabilities, especially for women and girls.
Igsj-Ug through its flagship project on ending SGBV is premised on changing such narrative with the aim of promoting gender equality for all!

Why is it important to address men’s gender related vulnerabilities?

While women as a group tend to face more vulnerabilities than men as a group due to gender discrimination, it’s also important to recognize used the ways in which gender norms can affect men negatively.
Links have been found between this frustration and committing violence against women, including sexual violence.
Men commit su***de at 3.6 times the rate of women and men drink more abs are more likely to die from alcohol related disorders.

Achieving Gender Equality often requires activities that promote women’s rights and empowerment. Empowerment of women means women gaining power and control over their own lives. It involves raising awareness, building self confidence, expanding choices, increasing access to and control of resources and working towards transforming structures and institutions which perpetuate gender discrimination and inequality.
The process of empowerment is as important as it’s goal itself.

Child mothers are victims of child sexual abuse and molestation and should not be stigmatized and revictimized. If the sight of pregnant and breastfeeding girls in schools and class is repulsive to us as Ugandans, let us all learn to say no to child sexual abuse. Men should learn to keep their zippers up and hands off the girl child. It is the responsibility of every Ugandan to report and stop child sexual abuse even if the perpetrator is your relative. child sexual abuse affects all of us.
